Thrifting and ruffled tree skirts

I have to share my super inexpensive no sew ruffled tree skirt with ya'll!
If you have the patience to use a hot glue gun for a few hours then you too can have a cute tree skirt!
I started with about 2 yards of each color of fabric.  The first one I made is red and burlap......LOVE!  I used a piece of scrap fabric for backing on both of them.  I cut it in a circle the size I wanted.  You can make your skirt as big or little as you want.  After I cut the "split" I cut out a small circle where the skirt fits around the tree trunk.  I touch it up after I add the ruffles.  Then I cut my fabric into strips about 2-3 inches wide.  I dont measure.  I literally hot glue the fabric into ruffles onto the base.  Row by row!
Once I get to the top I cut any excess off of the base.
That is it.  and it only takes about 30 glue sticks!
Kidding!
It does take quite a few though but so worth it if you dont sew!

And we also went thrifting this weekend!
We found all the goodies below and the candy machine!
My awesome husband has already repainted the candy machine and built a cool stand for it!
I cant to fill it with gum balls!

I feel like I have so much to share so make sure you come back tomorrow!
Oh and I do apologize for the instagram pics but I have lost my cable for my camera so its kind of all I got right now! ;)

Giving Thanks

What are you thankful for this year?

I am thankful for family.
I am thankful for a husband that supports most of my crazy home decor ideas.  I am thankful he almost always takes the spray paint from my hands and paints my projects for me because he knows I am not the best at spray painting.  I am thankful that he is an amazing father.  I am thankful for over 15 years with him so far!

I am thankful for my 15 yr old daughter.  I am thankful that she is so motivated to do well in life.  I am thankful for her crazy laugh and funny stories!

I am thankful for my 13 yr old daughter.  I am thankful for her creative heart even though she leaves a lot of messes in her path.

I am thankful for my son.  I am thankful for his crazy ninja moves.  I am thankful for his snuggles because I know he may not always want to "nuggle".

Mostly I am thankful for my God.  I am thankful for a God that knows my imperfections and loves me unconditionally regardless of my current or past mistakes!

1 Thessalonians 5:18  in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

I pray that you all have a blessed Thanksgiving today!

thrifting on fridays

Happy Saturday y'all!
Okay so first while I have been away from my blog I apparently won a giveaway!
Of course I did since I wasn't around to notice! Haha!
Fingers crossed that its not too late!
Yesterday I did some thrifting.
I love me some thrifting.
My love goes way back to when I was a little girl and my mom would go.  Now my girls love it as well.
My husband enjoys it too so its what we do when we are both home and kids are at school!
From my instagram feed yesterday it seems alot of y'all like it as well!  FYI, I am hmcart on instagram.

Alrighty so first I found these very cool vintage Shiny Brite ornaments.  I already have a plan for these beauties!

I scored this fabulous afghan at Goodwill yesterday also!

Here is a bread box from a few days ago.  It doesnt look like this anymore!  I will show ya what it looks like now on Monday!

Now thats not all I got thrifting this week but the dresser we bought is still in the truck. :/  Its going to get a makeover also.
We are in major DIY home decor mode right now with the holidays coming up!
I LOVE it!

Today I am going to attempt to make salted caramel sauce like Crystal's over at Little Bit Funky!
Fingers crossed!
Have a great weekend!

thursday

Good Thursday morning y'all!
I have once again been away from the blog for a while.
This past week I have been sick.....like can't breath or sleep or anything else sick.
So right at this moment my house is a disaster and we have several projects that we want to get done around the house before our family Christmas gathering in December.
Oh and I keep adding projects to the honey-do list!
So I am going to try and make the most of this "I am still not feeling 100% day" and hopefully all will be right with the world tomorrow!
and maybe one of the bathrooms will be a different color.
Don't worry I will show ya!

Insta Friday!

life rearranged

So this is my first insta-friday!
I am totally hooked on Instagram.
You should follow me.
I am hmcart.
This week when I looked back at my photos I realized I have a bit of a food issue.
I love food and this week it showed.

Sunset driving home the other day.  So pretty!

Food pic #1: I <3 Little Debbie

Food pic #2: Have you ever had a bean roll?  They are awesome!

My kids were playing with my phone.

Paying bills is boring....unless you have pretty notebooks and such!

And finally food pic #3: My name is Holly and I am addicted to Fruity Pebbles.

I am spending the entire day with my awesome husband today.  The kids are all in school and I see some thrifting/ antique shopping in the future!

Happy Friday!

weekend random

We had a different kind of weekend this weekend.
Our house had a baby in it from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon.
When I say baby I mean a child 2 or under.
My sweet niece spent the day with us friday.

On Friday evening a good friend of mine came to town and brought her little boy who just turned 2.
They stayed until Sunday.
We loved having sweet babies in our house but enough to have more of our own.
Three is enough for us.
That ship has sailed. Sigh.
After all of the babies were gone on Sunday we napped.
All of us.
Then I decided to work on relearning to crochet.
I used to crochet about 10 years ago.
I sure hope I can relearn quick.
I already pinned a ton of cool projects I want to make on Pinterest!

Happy Monday!

friday

Happy Friday y'all!
It has been one busy week and I am personally looking forward to a weekend filled with some of my favorite people.
My sweet niece is coming over for a while today.
I love that baby.
This afternoon one of my dear friends is coming to town and staying the weekend with us! Yay!
I am so looking forward to some chatting, crafting, eating, and maybe even a little antique shopping with her this weekend!
The weather has finally went from hot to fall except its raining but I can handle some rain.
I do love a good fall day!
What are your weekend plans?

Oh and let me know if you are on instagram.  I have only been on for a couple of weeks and I am hooked!
